More a collection of individually authored chapters than a traditional report. At 90 pages long, this is a good, if lengthy examination of the role of data in the US economy. The authors make a useful contribution to our understanding of the value of big data rather than just describing what it is. The report concludes that the impacts of big data are/will be huge and felt in 5 areas of the economy.

Chapter 5 by The Brookings Institution uses the term ‘databuse’ to describe “the malicious, reckless, negligent, or unjustified handling, collection, or use of a person’s data in a fashion adverse to that person’s interests and in the absence of that person’s knowing consent” (page 73).
